The value of supporting women for human and societal development has been described as a veritable tool for nation's building.
A Former President of AKA Ikenga, Chief Goddy Uwazuruike made the assertion at the Southeast Governors' Wives Peer Review Appreciation Day, organised by the Authority Newspapers in collaboration with Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo Worldwide in Enugu, Enugu State Capital.
Referring to women as Protege to men, Chief Uwazuruike appealed to them specifically the Ohanaeze Women Wing to charm Igbo citizens towards the ongoing Voters registration.
"....to the first Ladies and all the ladies holding one office or the other, i say do any good you can today and posterity will cherish and honour you repeatedly, we will remember your solid footprints in the sands of time. ....let me make this call with all seriousness, embark in the campaign to get people in the Igbo speaking states to go for voters' registrations. Registration of voters is going on right now, in the north they queuing also in the west they are queuing but in Igbo speaking areas, all is silent."
Also speaking, the Woman Leader of Ohanaeze Women wing, worldwide, Chief Mrs. Calista Mmirioma lauded the benevolent nature of women in human development thereby applauding the steadfastness of the Southeast Governors' wives on PET Projects in their various states even as she encouraged them to ensure continuity of such projects.
"....we appreciate our First Ladies, the wives of our Governors for their PET projects, through the projects they are able to touch lives in various communities and we also thank the Governors for supporting the First Ladies in ensuring the success story of the Projects. The First Ladies should please add more to their PET project, we appreciate"
Delivering a Lecture on the topic, "Advancing Igbo-Cause through Science and Technology, (Nigerian Hypothesis) Expectations for the First Ladies, Professor Maduike Ezeibe of University of Agriculture, Umudike, recalled numerous exploits of the Southern Region of Nigeria before the civil war calling on Igbo women precisely the First Ladies to use their positions as heralds of salvations to mankind and propagate the use of what he calls Nigeria Mecinal Synthetic Aluminium Magnesium Silicate, (AMS) as cure for HIV/AIDS.
"This is a time for us to go back to that Igbo ingenuity so that we can have both economic and social development of the southeast the time has come for us to do that. The good News we have for the first ladies is that the Nigerian Medicinal Synthetic Aluminum Magnesium Silicate is the cure for HIV/AIDS."
Earlier in a remark, the Managing Director of Authority Newspapers, Mr. Madu Onuorah drew attention to the plight of the igbos in the present Nigeria state, expressing insatiablility at the fact that Igbo clan was before the emergence of the Newspaper company, apparently voiceless.
"....even when you establish your Newspaper in Lagos and you are from the south, what happens, our brothers in the southwest will take hold of it. You are the owner but they control it. And then they have the ones the own and what do they do? they defend the interest of their people completely and when the Northerners wanted to take back power, they established Daily Trust, Leadership, Blueprint, etc, so you you go against anything they publish, all of them will gather against you. The Igbos are the only tribe which didn't have a platform where they can air their views. So when we planned to establish the Authority, we made it a role, if any Igbo man is being trampled upon anywhere we will rise against that person or institutions and we don't care what happens there after."
The occasion featured Gospel song performance by people with special needs (visually impaired) and Cultural song by a group from Ngwa, Abia state even as other dignitaries present included the National President and Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Youth Council, Mazi Ikechukwu Isiguzoro and Mr. Emeka Ejide respectively, the Southeast zonal Vice President of the Nigerian Union of Journalist, Mr. Chris Isiguzo and the Southeast Editor of the Authority Newspapers, Mr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu.
