Ezeemo intervenes as Ezira blames state government contractor for flood

Peoples’ Progressive Alliance gubernatorial aspirant in Anambra State, Chief Godwin Ezeemo, has called on Anambra state government to hearken to the cry of homeless Ezira indigenes that had to recently evacuate their homes as a result of severe flood.

He also advised Arab Contractors, the contractors working on the road, who the villagers accused of being responsible for the flood, to increase the specification of the gutters as the incidence has shown that a larger capacity alone can handle the flood in the area.

Chief Ezeemo also condoled with the victims and commended the villagers for coming out en mass to aid one another in evacuation, retrieval and relocation processes. He also commenced intervention process within his means to ameliorate the suffering of the flood victims.

Inhabitants of Ubaha Ezira community and environs especially those living along and around Ezira Umuomaku, Enugu Umuonyia road had a close shave with death and had to be evacuated from their homes when flood from the first heavy rain of the year burst through their walls engulfing all their valuables.

Good Samaritans organized youths of Ezira and environ who went to work in the various houses all night and way into the morning, evacuating young people, the sick and aged to unaffected homesteads to pass the night.

Narrating their ordeal, Ozoemena Ikwukeme from Ubaha Ezira, obviously in shock, said that around 5 pm, a heavy down pour began. This gave rise to flood which heaved down his wall and destroyed his property including his documents and those of his wife and kids.

“I am a large scale farmer as well as a staff in the Works department of Orumba South local government and my documents are lost forever. All the certificates of my wife and my kids are lost. So are my efforts for the season. I am devastated,” Ikwukeme said in tears.

He blamed the activities of Arab Construction Company allegedly contracted by the state government to build the Ezira, Umuomaku, Achina road. In his view, if the contract was real and not a political fraud, the contractors should have completed a standard drainage system along the road to channel the flood.

He appreciated Godwin Ezeemo for his intervention noting that he was the first to answer their SOS call after several days of occurrence.

Ezira is an agro based community in Orumba South Local Government Area, known for rice, cassava, yam, Okro, vegetables and palm oil production.

Charles Odunukwe, a potential Leader.

O bu onye si n’igbo enwenyi mmadu? What do we really mean when we say one is a Philanthropist?   Charles Odunukwe, Foundation and Chairman Chardon Foundation and the Vice President-General Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Worldwide. These outlined questions form the basis of the following article that puts you on the know of a less perceived strong smell of a genius who has crossed and dotted his Ts and Is respectively in the events of human development and economic empowerment. One can attest to the fact that one of the factors that propagate a person with goodwill is Benevolence. Which in terms of human relation, charitable kindness, altruistic gifts, little wonder the saying that it does not matter how long one lives on earth rather what matters is the achievement he or she had instituted before going the way of all flesh and mortals. In this context, one person that keeps striking my thoughts is the man whose name will continue to ring a resounding bell in ears within...
