True
to their nature, the first notable couple to show up at the scene of
the heinous bloodletting that occurred at Ozubulu in Anambra State
was Mr and Mrs Ezeemo, accompanied by their daughter, Kelechi.
At
a point, Mrs Ezeemo had to hug her daughter who was overcome by
compassion at the sight of all the dead and wounded in Nnamdi Azikiwe
University Teaching hospital, Nnewi, NAUTH (where victims of the Ozubulu
shoot-out were taken).
“The painful thing is that the people suffering in this exchange apparently know nothing about the cause of the event.”
She used the opportunity to call on the law enforcement agencies to brace up their act to be able to contain surprises like this.
Mr Godwin Ezeemo, PPA Gubernatorial Candidate in the forthcoming Anambra gubernatorial election, who termed the event the ‘first of its kind in Anambra State’, stressed the need to get to the root cause of the event. He also reiterated the need for more lasting solution to power supply problem in the state.
“If we had constant power supply, I am sure that an edifice like this (referring to the church) would have security cameras which would make an incident like this easier to be contain,” he said.
Ezeemo also recommended more decisive empowerment of the youths as a way of proactively taking care of security problems.
He enjoined those affected, and indeed all Anambrarians, to take heart, have faith in God and take the incident as a lesson to be more loving and sharing in their disposition towards life.
It would be noted that trigger-happy gunmen rudely interrupted 5:30 mass
service in St Philip’s Catholic Church, Amakwaa- Ozubulu with sporadic
gunshots that left 8 congregants dead and more than 21 fatally wounded
in its wake.
