Anambra State Government and Body Team Fitness Club, Abuja to host the first Under-13 Football Tournament in the state.

Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, Dr. Mrs. Uju Nwogu has said that Sports is Key for overall development of the Child.

Dr. Mrs. Nwogu made the comment in a Press Briefing to herald the Anambra State Under-13 Willie is Working Football Tournament, at the complex of the Ministry of Youth Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, Awka, the State Capital.

The Commissioner stated that Anambra State government is partnering with the Body Team Fitness Club, Abuja, to stage the Under-13 Football Competition which intends to display the talent of pupils in Primary and Secondary Schools across the State.

"this Football tournament is intended to develop sports in Anambra state, showcase budding talent in the very young ones particularly those in the Primary and Secondary Schools. Also it intends to bring further Anambra State in terms of football and other sporting activities".

For Commissioner for Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, the one week long
Competition which is scheduled to kick off on September the 27th this year will provide grounds for government to discover new talents for onward representation of the state in national and international events.


"catch them young policy is very prime in Willie Obiano-led Administration's strategy in Education and Sports, therefore it is imperative we take the competition very seriously because in catching them young, we give them leverage for the future".

Applauding the State Government for partnering with the Fitness Club in the Project, the Chairman of the Main Organising Committee (M.O.C), of the Event, Mr. S.I Okonkwo, a Legal Practitioner commended Governor Willie Obiano for investing hugely on sports development thereby disclosing the Club’s resolution to compliment efforts of the governor in supporting sporting activities in the state.  

"Our amiable Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has in different ways demonstrated his love in sports development and to compliment his efforts, we have resolved to embark on this project".


Other members of the M.O.C present at the Press briefing were the National Chairman and Treasurer of the Body Team Fitness Club, Mr. Chike Chukwurah also a Legal practitioner and Nze John Umennadi, respectively.
