Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, Dr. Mrs. Uju Nwogu has said that Anambra state is endowed with the best quality of youths who are ambitious for a better future.

Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, Dr. Mrs. Uju Nwogu has said that Anambra state is endowed with the best quality of youths who are ambitious for a better future.
Dr. Mrs. Nwogu stated this at the 2017 International
Youth Day Celebration, observed at Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development
Centre, Awka, the state Capital.
The Commissioner said, the Youth Day celebration
which holds yearly provides opportunity for government at all level to draw
attention to issues concerning youths and as such appreciated Governor Willie
Obiano for running a youth friendly government noting that since the inception
of the present administration, the governor has been committed to the welfare
of the youths.
“Here in Anambra state, I can conveniently say that
we have the best crop of young people who are committed to a positive future
and ready to partner the government to transform and move the state forward”
Commissioner Nwogu further explained that the theme
of this year’s solemnization which is “Youths Building Peace”, is apt as it
concerns the young people’s contribution in conflict resolution and prevention.
She extolled Governor Obiano for approving numerous
youth oriented programs that target at sensitizing youths on health and drug
related issues while urging youths in the state not to relent in their
supporting for the present administration.
“This administration has left nobody in doubt to the
commitment of it to the welfare of youths. For instance, the youths of Anambra
state form a greater percentage of political appointees and people serving in
different capacities in the state civil service”
In a keynote Address, a University Don, Professor
Ken Nwogu harped on the need for youths to participate actively in the present
saying that the youthful age is a period of self definition.
“The youth is the most sensitive age of our life. Is
the age of drive, originality, altruism, accommodation and dissension, it is
when we are young that we can determine who to associate with. That is when we
can make best decisions of our life, it is at that age we can descend and see
that which we can choose and my admonition to young people is we must always
choose to be associated with that which is good”
Delivering a Lecture with the topic “Youths and
Peace Building in the 21st Century”, an Associate Professor of Adult
and Special Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Dr. Williams Obiozor
challenged adults not to perceive youth-led initiatives as a threat to their
own power and positions.
“Seek more inclusive means for young people to
express themselves, enable young people and adults to explore the common
problems they face and to tackle them together”
The 2017 Youth Day Celebration featured campaign
against Drug Abuse and illicit drug peddling, by the National Drug Law
Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, while a Former Anambra state Commissioner for
Information, Chief Mager Umeh, the Special Assistant to Governor Obiano on
Youth mobilization, Chief Tony Ezekwelu among others, were some of the
dignitaries that graced the occasion.
