Traders Cup- Governor Obiano calls for peaceful coexistence among traders.

The 2017 Governor Willie Obiano Traders Cup has started in Onitsha with a call on traders to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship.

The football competition which features 36 football teams from various markets in Anambra state commenced with Ekwuluobia Allied Traders Association beating Marine modern Market Onitsha 5 goals to 3 in penalty shoot outs at Godwin Achebe mini stadium Onitsha.

In a speech to kick start the event Governor Obiano said his administration has instituted the annual competition in order to maintain peaceful co-existence among traders.

“This is aimed at bringing traders together, apart from doing business, for them to work with each other. 36 markets in the six zones are participating in this tournament so is going to be a keenly contested competition and we are ready for you”

For her part, the Commissioner for Youth Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, Dr. Mrs. Uju Nworgu expressed happiness over the outcome of the event saying that the competition serves opportunity for discovering of new talents.

“I am happy to see that the youths filled up the stadium to capacity and the Governor is also elated seeing the positive consequence of what he instituted”

In their separate reactions, the President General of the Amalgamated Market Traders Association of Anambra state, Chief Dr. Okwudili Ezenwankwo and the Secretary General, Chief Chuma Eruchalu commended the Governor for his remarkable stage show for traders in the state while pledging their support for him in the forthcoming governorship election.

“By this the Governor has shown that he is part of us and that he loves the traders, we own him a lot, we have to pay him, come November 18th we will not disappoint him so we are indebted to him. We have to pay him with our votes because he is a good man we will support him”

“The traders can always say that they are happy with His Excellency and we can assure you in the coming election that traders will not disappoint him, our support for him is total”
