MANY LIVES WASTED

Over ten persons were reportedly killed in a ghastly road crashes involving different commercial vehicles along the Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway in Ebonyi State, yesterday.  Newsmen who visited the scene of the accidents, which occurred almost simultaneously along the major highway, included Ezilo axis of Ishielu council area of the state and 135, Ezzamgbo of Ohaukwu council area of the state claiming many lives, including the drivers.  Though officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, could not confirm the accurate number of casualties, one of the survivors of the Ezillo accident, who identified himself as Mr. Ezekiel said that the accident occurred when the driver of a white bus coming from Awka to Abakaliki tried to overtake a Sienna saloon car and headed-on with another bus from Abakaliki.  The eyewitness blamed the driver of the bus he was travelling in for reckless driving, adding that the accident could have been avoided if the driver had heeded several warni

Miss Anambra 2015, Chidinma Okeke claims she was under the influence of something she cannot ascertain when she did the video in an interview with Telegraph. Anambra State Government calls for suport on the State Health Insurance Bill 2016

The Anambra State Government has reiterated its commitment towards providing access to quality and affordable Health Care services to Anambrarians. Governor Willie Obiano stated this during a one-day public hearing on Anambra state Health Insurance Bill 2016, at the Jerome Udorji Secretariat, Awka, the Anambra state capital. Governor Obiano, represented by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joe Akabuike enjoined Anambrarians to throw their weight behind the bill, stating that the benefit cannot be over-emphasized. ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNMENT IS TAKING THE BULL BY THE HORNS

The State Government has commenced palliative work on the four kilometer stretch from Awkuzu to Umunya along the Awka-Onitsha Express way.   It was reported that heavy duty bulldozers were on ground leveling the heaps of laterite on one side of the road and excavating unsuitable materials on the other when he arrived. The very bad spot which had hitherto been impassable causing motorists untold hardship, has also been made accessible with the commuters plying on one side of the road. SARAKI, CHALLENGED OVER ASUU STRIKE.

          Nigerian lawmakers have mandated the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to promptly intervene on behalf of the Federal Government to dialogue with ASUU, Following the threats issued by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to embark on a nationwide industrial action. The Senate equally commended ASUU for choosing dialogue over confrontation in its approach and promised that proper funding of universities would be put into the 2017 Budget. This followed a Point of Order raised by Senator Jibrin Barau of Kano North during the plenary on Tuesday, where he told lawmakers that he “heard that ASUU has given notice of one week industrial action.” Senator Barau led motion on the urgent matter of national importance, regarding the impending ASUU strike, pointing out that ASUU is agitating for the smooth operations of Nigerian universities and staff welfare. IBRAHIM,  JEGEDE KNOW FATE TOMORROW                                                                      The court of Appeal, Abuja division, yesterday, fixed tomorrow for the ruling in the Ondo Peoples Democratic Party [PDP]governorship crisis in the state. A panel of three Judges led by Salauwa, fixed the date after taking final arguements by counsels in the matter.  The Senator Ali Modu Sherif- led faction of the party had been in a leadership tussle with the Senator Ahmed Markarfi led caretaker committee. Eyitayo Jegede [SAN] emerged as the governorship candidate of the party from the Markarfi faction while Jimoh Ibrahim emerged from the Ali Modu Sherif faction. The party had sent Jegede's name to the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] prompting the Sherif faction to approach the federal high court sitting in Abuja, challenging the submission of Jegede's name to the commission.

FREEDOM SMELLS

FINAL RULING ON NNAMDI KANU. The stage looks set for final hearing and ruling on a bail application filed by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu in the Federal High Court in Abuja The Court has fixed Thursday, November 17 for the final outing on the lingering case of the IPOB Leader. The date was fixed by Justice Binta Nyako who presided over a fresh six count charge leveled against Mazi Kanu by the Department of State Services (DSS). Kanu has been detained in Kuje prison after a he was granted bail by a Chief Magistrate in Wuse Zone 2 Abuja and Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court.  He was later denied bail by Justice John Tsoho after the Ademola disqualified himself from the matter. It will be recalled that Justice Tsoho while giving his ruling then, ordered that Kanu be remanded in Kuje Prison pending the conclusion of his trial. Before the hearing today, the IPOB in an analysis condemned the charges against Kanu sayi
