A Belgian online news media, confirms the 26-year old COVID-19 status on Wednesday.
The RKC Gent striker’s result came back positive after the club side tested their players ahead of an exhibition game slated for Thursday.
Onuachu, who recently returned to Belgium after he accompanied Victor Osimhen for his father’s burial in Nigeria, will be quarantined for a week.
He is expected to reunite with the team when he fully recovers.
“In the run-up to the first exhibition game of the season, the entire Genk group was tested for the virus.
Everyone tested negative except Onuachu,” the Belgium media says.
Onuachu scored his first goal for the Nigerian team in a friendly match against Egypt on March 26, 2019.
The goal was scored within the first 10 seconds of the game.
